03 - 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
04 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
05 - 1 cup tomato sauce
06 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
07 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
08 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
09 - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
10 - 1 teaspoon brown sugar
11 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
12 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
13 - 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

→ Garlic Bread

14 - 1 large French baguette or Italian loaf
15 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
16 - 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
17 - 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
18 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
19 - 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
20 - 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef until well browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat as needed.
03 - Add chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
04 - Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Simmer the mixture for 8–10 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat.
05 - Slice the baguette horizontally. In a small bowl, blend softened butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
06 - Spread garlic butter evenly across both cut halves of the bread. Arrange the halves, cut side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
07 - Bake for 5–6 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from the oven.
08 - Top one half of each bread piece with a generous layer of the sloppy joe filling. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
09 - Return to the oven for 5–6 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
10 - Place the remaining bread halves on top to form sandwiches. Press gently, slice into portions, and serve while hot.

# Insider Tips:

01 -
  • No one expects a Sloppy Joe to come with that glorious garlic crunch — it feels like you're in on a delicious secret.
  • It stretches a pound of beef further, especially when feeding a crowd or during hungry evenings.
02 -
  • If you skip baking the bare garlic bread first, it can turn soggy once filled — I learned that the drippy way.
  • Letting the filling get truly thick stops it from leaking everywhere when you slice and serve.
03 -
  • Double-bake the bread for crunch that holds up against even the juiciest filling.
  • Don't rush the simmer — thicker filling means less mess on your fingers and plates.
