Juicy Blueberry Grilled Cheese (Print Version)

Fresh blueberries melted with sharp cheddar and cream cheese between buttery golden sourdough slices.

# What You Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices sourdough or hearty white bread

→ Cheese

02 - 4 oz cream cheese, softened
03 - 4 oz sharp white cheddar cheese, shredded

→ Fruit

04 - 1 cup fresh blueberries

→ Spreads & Fats

05 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
06 - 1 tbsp honey (optional)

→ Seasoning

07 - 1/4 tsp ground black pepper (optional)

# Directions:

01 - In a small bowl, gently toss the blueberries with honey and black pepper if using. Set aside to allow flavors to meld.
02 - Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on one side of each bread slice, ensuring complete coverage to the edges.
03 - Sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over two bread slices, distributing it on top of the cream cheese layer.
04 - Spoon the prepared blueberry mixture evenly over the cheddar layer on both prepared slices.
05 - Top with the remaining bread slices, cream cheese side down, pressing gently to adhere and form complete sandwiches.
06 - Butter the outsides of each sandwich generously, ensuring even coverage for optimal golden browning.
07 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat until hot but not smoking, approximately 2-3 minutes.
08 - Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is thoroughly melted.
09 - Remove from heat and let rest for 1 minute to allow cheese to set slightly. Slice diagonally and serve immediately while hot.

# Insider Tips:

01 -
  • The way tart berries balance with creamy, melted cheese is genuinely surprising
  • It comes together in under 20 minutes but feels like something from a fancy café
02 -
  • Low and slow heat wins the race here. High heat burns the bread before the cheese has time to melt properly.
  • Frozen blueberries release too much water and make the bread soggy. Stick with fresh or thaw and drain frozen ones very thoroughly.
03 -
  • Shred your own cheese from a block rather than buying pre shredded. It melts so much better and creates that perfect cheese pull.
  • Use a Mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside for an even crispier, more golden crust that will not burn as easily.
